Water is one of the most common dream symbols due to it's nature of emotional involvement. When we are having vivid or recurring dreams and find ourselves in the midst of water, we can almost always relate it to our emotions in our subconscious or waking lives. Of course the details within our dreams will give us clues on how certain symbols relates to what we are going through, both positive and negative. I have personally experienced many different kinds of water dreams, and used them to understand what was happening in my waking life. While we can experience water in so many different ways, from person to person and experience to experience, here are some ways we may have experienced this symbol:
Deep Body of Water: Somtimes, we find ourselves at the ocean, lake, or reservoir. They are all different sizes of bodies of water. The bigger, the deeper the emotions that one may be experiencing in their waking life. These kinds of waters can be overwhelming, especially if one finds them in the water itself. It may be indicating a time where one could be overwhelmed about certain events that are happening, such as a difficult and trying time, especially if the dream feels uneasy. If feeling at ease, it could be an indication of a situation turning into a more tranquil and peaceful time.
Waterfalls: To see or be in the midst of a waterfall could be a metaphysical cleansing where one is being cleansed or going through a purification process. Things may have been overwhelming emotionally, and one is currently doing the work to minimize stressors in their waking life. This dream is an indication that the work you are doing to find some emotional balance is being had, and you are releasing negative thoughts that may have been lying deep within your subconscious.
Shallow Water: This kind of water could be a warning that if one does not deal with the emotions in their waking life, that things could be come increasingly overwhelming. While things may be ok at the moment, they could spiral out of control. Whether the dreamer is behaving in a negative way or someone behaving negatively to them, things are about to get out of hand if one does not find common ground and resolves the minor issues that are taking place. This is also the case for any situation that you feel uneasy about.
Rain: Rain dreams can be very common when it comes to water. It's also something that you have the choice to be in or out of in your waking life. If it's raining, you can stay inside, or go out and get wet. When it comes to rain, think about what you are involving yourself in. Is it healthy? Is it any of your business? How does it affect you if you take the chance on getting wet? For some, this rain depending on how heavy, can indicate a need to steer clear from, especially if this rain is heavy or a hurricane. This is a time to pick your battles. In the dream, if the dreamer is in the rain and the sun suddenly comes out, think of it as a way of something resolving itself in your waking life.
Pools: When it comes to pools, it can be a good time for those who are hot and need to cool down. Pools can go from shallow to deep, and the part of the pool one chooses to be in is up to them. How much does one need to cool off from a situation in their waking life? The part of the pool that one find themselves in could indicate a need to take a certain amount of load off of them. Just getting ones feet wet, could be a need for a quick mental break. If there are many people in the pool, the break may be from yourself. Perhaps you have been in isolation and it's an indication to socialize. Or perhaps it's time to give someone their rightful space. If one finds themselves alone in the pool, maybe the break should be from others. Setting boundaries creates healthy relationships, as well as keeps you from being burdened by certain circumstances.
Running Water: When something is on the mind, it can sometimes be hard to let go. Seeing running water may mean that it is time for one to cut off the negative thoughts or feelings of anxiety. Leaving the water running could create an unwanted overflow, that could spill over onto others or your plans in your waking life. This kind of anxiety can limit the energy of positive manifestation and manifest the unwanted thoughts. If one successfully turns the water off in the dream, this is an indication that you are self aware and using this time to create better thought patterns. In turn, this creates better outcomes.
Floods: Finding yourself in a flood could be finding oneself all over the place emotionally in their waking life. The dreamer may have let a situation get too far or out of hand and things became too much or devastating to the dreamer. Feelings may have gotten out of control and one may have been involved in a situation where it became too much to handle. Think about where the flood was, and how that place relates to self.
While these are just some of the water themes that could present itself, there are situations that will vary from dreamer to dreamer. Like the people present, the places where this water is present. There will be other symbols to take note of as well within the dream.
Always try to remember as much detail and take note of your dream as soon as you awake, as these kinds of dreams can quickly leave the mental upon waking.
